2012 Fall Choir Auditions

Sunday, Aug. 19, 2-7 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 23, 6-9 p.m.


Auditions will be held in the Choir Room at St, James United Methodist Church, 2000 East 6th Street in Greenville. Rehearsals begin Tuesday, August 28, at 7 p.m. at Peace Presbyterian Church (301 Guiness Rd. (off of Old Tar Rd., just S. of Fire Tower Rd. in Winterville.)

Audition Procedures

The audition consists of five components:

 

  1. Range test
    1. Sing 1-3-5-3-1 (do-mi-sol-mi-do) on syllable “noh.”

                                                              This exercise will begin in E-flat major and modulate by ascending half steps.

    1. Sing 5-4-3-2-1 (sol-fa-mi-re-do) on syllable “nee.”

                                                              This exercise will begin in E-flat major and modulate by descending half steps.

  1. Performance piece
    1. Sing “America” (‘My Country ‘Tis of Thee’).
    2. The key will depend on results of range test.
    3. You may be asked to sing more than once in a different key.
  2. Pitch Memory: You will hear a series of notes played on the piano and will be asked to repeat the series on a neutral syllable.
  3. Singing a harmonic interval: You will hear a harmonic interval (two notes played at the same time) and will be asked to sing both pitches on a neutral syllable.
  4. Sight-singing
    1. You will be asked to sing a short sight-singing exercise.
    2. You may sing it on any syllable you prefer.
